Kia Motors is all set to expand its Nepalese product portfolio with a new electric crossover in the coming months. Continental Associates, the authorized distributor of Kia vehicles in Nepal is all set to launch the EV6 crossover in Nepal. Unveiled globally in March 2021, it is Kia's first electric vehicle and will be based on the Hyundai Group's dedicated Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). According to the company, bookings for the Kia EV6 will commence in the coming months followed by the price announcement and launch by end of 2022.
Kia EV6 is powered by a Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM). The Kia EV6 is offered with multiple configurations and battery sizes. It is available with either a 58kWh battery pack or a 77.4kWh battery pack in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive formats. The Kia EV6 with the 58kWh battery has a range of around 378km while the 77.4kWh battery can do up to 528km on a single charge. The bigger battery gives an increased output of 325PS and 605Nm.
Kia also offers an 800V charging setup which can charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in around 18 minutes. A 7kW home charger will recharge the EV6 from 10 to 100 percent in 7 hours 20 minutes. The EV6 will take 32 hours and 45 minutes to reach fully from 10 percent using a regular domestic plug. A 50kW DC fast charger can charge the EV6 from 10 to 80 percent just in 1 hour and 13 minutes while the 350 kW ultra-fast chargers take just 18 minutes to recharge from 10 to 80 percent. These figures are applicable for the 77.4kWh version while the 58kWh battery will have shorter charging times.
The Kia electric crossover comes with a 12.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. It is also equipped with a WiFi hotspot, wireless smartphone charging, an optional 14 speakers Meridian audio system, a voice-activated dual-zone front AC unit, and vegan leather seat trim. The EV6 offers multiple safety features including automated emergency braking, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist. It also gets remote parking assistance, vehicle stability management (VSM)), electronic stability control (ESC), multiple airbags, collision mitigation (rear), aerial view camera system, and many more.
Kia EV6 will be limited to 100 units in the Nepalese market and will likely go on sale by end of 2022. Kia EV6 price in Nepal is expected to be around NRs. 1.10 Crore to NRs. 1.20 Crore. Kia EV6 comes in five different color options including Red, White, Black, Blue, and Gray. It will take on potential future rivals in the country such as the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Tesla Model Y.
