The Skoda Auto India had set a new benchmark in the compact SUV segment with the launch of its Yeti model. The Skoda Karoq would be an upgraded version of Yeti, built on the platform of the Skoda Kodiaq design. The dynamic dimensional features will be highlighted with new LED headlights, stylish body contours and new 19” alloy wheels. The interiors will feature 9.2” touchscreen infotainment system with surround sound and the seat matrix is provided with electric adjustability with memory function. The advanced technology features of electronic stability control, dynamic chassis control and surround airbags would be featured as a standard.
The Skoda Karoq specifications would include options of a 1.0L three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine delivering the power of 113PS and torque of 175Nm, and a 1.5L four-cylinder engine delivering the power of 147bhp and torque of 250Nm. The diesel versions would have a 1.6L Turbocharged TDI engine with the power of 113PS and torque of 250Nm. The diesel version would also be available with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine delivering the power of 147PS and torque of 340Nm, and the same engine with a power output of 186PS and 400Nm torque. The Skoda Karoq transmission system would be available in five-speed manual and seven-speed DSG automatic transmission versions. The four-wheel-drive system would also be available in the top-end variants.
The Skoda Karoq exteriors will have full LED headlights and full LED fog lights at the front. The exteriors will be designed on the platform of the Kodiaq model, and it will look more dynamic with larger dimensions as compared to the Yeti model. The side profile will have wide opening doors with body-colored door handles, and ORVMs with integrated turn indicators and electric fold feature. Skoda Karoq features will include combination LED tail lamps extending to the quarter panel, dual-tone bumper design with reflector inserts, and the windshield with tinted glass and defoggers, leaving a marvelous image on the road.
The Skoda Karoq interiors will feature electrically-adjustable and heated seats at the front, and a foldable rear seat with ample leg space, lumbar support and head restraint for comfort. The rear seat will include a feature of being folded in three individually adjustability and foldability options for extending the boot space for suiting the luggage requirements. The dashboard will have the Colombus infotainment system with 9.2” touchscreen, with 64GB storage, DVD/CD drive, navigation, and gesture control features. The comfort features of automatic air conditioning, utility features of cup holders at the center console and door trims, and the spacious glove box with cooling would be featured in this model.
The Skoda Karoq braking system will have disc brakes on four wheels with an antilock braking system with the electronic brake-force distribution. The new features of adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection, rear traffic alert, city emergency brake with predictive pedestrian protection, lane assist, driver alert, and traffic sign recognition system would be introduced in this model for efficient handling. The safety feature of surround airbags for the front and rear seat occupants would be available in the top variants.
The Skoda Karoq mileage would range at 20kmpl for the 1.0L petrol engine and 18kmpl in the 1.5L four-cylinder petrol version. The diesel version of Skoda Karoq mileage would range at 20 to 22kmpl in standard driving conditions. The mileage figures could vary depending upon the kerb weight of the vehicle, driving conditions and the drive mode selected. The Skoda Karoq competition would be with the likes of SUVs such as Toyota Fortuner and Mahindra XUV 500. The stylish exteriors, luxurious interiors, and wide range of engine and variant options give it an edge over the competing models.
The engine options with a wide range of power and torques and availability of manual and automatic transmission versions are further enhanced with a drive mode selection feature. The drive select feature will have the options of Normal, Sport, Eco, Snow and Off-road modes. The Snow mode will be available only in all-wheel drive variant and the Off-road mode will be available as optional for AWD version. The all-terrain capability of the SUV will further be enhanced with the electronic differential lock and dynamic chassis control system that will be able to alter the suspension settings to suit the drive mode selected.
The Skoda Karoq would be available with a wide range of engine options, variants with sophisticated equipment and accessories. The versatile interiors with luxurious upholstery, fit and finish, and the superior quality infotainment system will assure a comfortable and pleasant driving experience.
