Honda has stopped making the Activa E and QCi1 electric scooters in India
Both models were launched in February 2025
Total production in 11 months reached 11,168 units
Only 5,201 units were sent to dealerships
Low demand triggered the shutdown
Honda has not issued any official statement
Honda has quietly pulled the plug on the Activa E and QCi1 electric scooters. These were Honda’s first electric models manufactured in India and were expected to strengthen the brand’s presence in the EV space. Instead, production has been stopped within a year of launch, catching both customers and industry observers off guard.
No formal announcement has been made by Honda, which adds an air of mystery to the whole situation.
The primary reason behind the sudden stoppage is simple. The market did not respond. Despite the trust attached to the Activa name, the electric variants struggled to capture buyer interest in a segment filled with more powerful, feature-rich and trendier options.
Honda hoped for a strong entry. The numbers show otherwise.
Honda produced 11,168 units of the Activa E and QCi1 between February and December. Out of these:
4,461 units of QCi1
740 units of Activa E
Only 5,201 units reached dealerships. The remaining units stayed in storage and production was eventually halted.
The gap between what was produced and what was sold shows that demand remained far below expectations.
Several factors shaped the weak performance.
While rivals pushed the boundaries on performance, battery range and tech, Honda played it safe with conservative specifications. Buyers wanted excitement. Honda offered a safe ride.
Brands with strong EV reputations had already taken up the spotlight. Honda entered late and did not deliver anything groundbreaking.
Honda’s careful approach to electric mobility may have worked against it. Customers wanted a bold new Activa experience, not a mild step forward.
Stopping production does not mean Honda is stepping away from the EV market. If anything, it suggests a reset. We may see:
A redesigned Activa EV
Fresh EV platforms tailor-made for India
Better pricing, stronger specs and more tech
Honda has global EV ambitions and is likely recalibrating instead of retreating.
The shutdown of the Activa E and QCi1 marks a turning point for Honda’s electric journey in India. Strong brand trust alone could not push the scooters forward. Competitors moved faster and offered more. Honda now has the chance to rethink, rework and return stronger with a new electric strategy built for a demanding and fast-evolving market.
