GWM Gives Its Popular Off Roader A Comprehensive Update

Great Wall Motor has officially started pre sales of the refreshed Tank 300L in China, opening reservations on July 6 ahead of its market launch on July 19. While the Tank 300 has already established itself as one of China's best known rugged SUVs, this latest version represents far more than a routine facelift.

According to the automaker, the new model incorporates 553 revisions. More than half of those involve components that have been completely redeveloped, highlighting the scale of the engineering effort behind the update.

That matters because buyers in this segment increasingly expect genuine off road ability without sacrificing comfort or technology. The Tank 300L appears designed to deliver both.

A Cabin Focused On Technology And Long Distance Comfort

Inside, the SUV receives a noticeably more modern dashboard layout led by a 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6 inch 2.5K floating infotainment display. The system runs on Coffee OS 3 AI, Great Wall Motor's latest intelligent operating platform.

Equipment has also been expanded to improve long distance travel.

  • More than 4,000 off road route guides
  • Built in radio
  • Oxygen concentrator support
  • Satellite communication capability

Driver comfort receives equal attention. The driver's seat offers 12 way electric adjustment, while the front passenger seat features 10 way electric adjustment. Both front seats include heating, ventilation, memory functions, and an eight point massage system. Rear passengers also benefit from a reclining backrest adjustable between 25 degrees and 33.7 degrees.

Exterior Changes Remain True To Tank Identity

The updated SUV keeps its signature boxy silhouette but introduces several visual revisions. A new blacked out grille dominates the front fascia with prominent TANK lettering, while redesigned circular LED headlamps refresh the familiar face.

The company has also focused on personalization. Owners can configure the SUV for different lifestyles thanks to 40 expansion interfaces integrated into the vehicle.

The revised platform also brings structural updates that reinforce the SUV's off road credentials.

These figures underline the Tank 300L's continued focus on demanding terrain rather than urban styling alone. The engineering philosophy remains firmly rooted in genuine off road capability.

Powertrain, Safety And What Comes Next

Power comes from a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine. Great Wall Motor has also confirmed a new Hi4 Z powertrain, claiming improved performance, stronger off road capability, and lower fuel consumption. Detailed hybrid specifications, however, have not yet been disclosed.

Safety has also been strengthened. The Tank 300L is equipped with 27 sensors, including a LiDAR unit, supporting a more advanced driver assistance system.

The timing is particularly significant as electrified off road vehicles continue gaining momentum across China. Buyers increasingly expect advanced technology alongside traditional four wheel drive capability, and manufacturers are responding accordingly.

For Nepal, the wait will be longer. VG Impex, the official distributor of Great Wall Motor vehicles in the country, has already announced plans to launch the new Tank 300 SUV before the end of 2026. Pricing has not yet been announced.
