According to the latest report, Piaggio is all set to launch a sports bike by 2023 in the Nepalese market. At present, Piaggio sells Vespa and Aprilia scooters in Nepal. It will be a mid-sized bike of above 300-cc engine capacity and will be under the Aprilia brand. However, it will not be the Aprilia RS 150 and the Tuono 150 motorcycles but the name could be likely. Instead, it will be more powerful motorcycles, which will use an engine of displacement between 300cc and 400cc.

Presumably,  300cc Aprilia Sportbike would be a single-cylinder platform that is built in order to suit the Nepalese roads. With the project still in the early stages, we don’t expect to see this sportbike till 2020. The upcoming motorcycles are likely to carry either the RS or the Tuono moniker. We can expect the upcoming bikes to feature a modern liquid-cooled engine and premium underpinnings such as inverted fork, monoshock, and disc brakes with dual-channel ABS as standard. Since the Aprilia 300cc Bike will be premium, performance-packed offerings, they will compete against the KTM 250 Duke, Honda CB300R, BMW G 310 R, and the TVS Apache RR 310 in the Nepalese market  We can expect the performance levels as well as the fit and finish of the upcoming bikes similar to the Honda CB300R. The motorcycle is likely to be manufactured in India and the price will be revealed closer to its launch date. However, with the Nepalese market moving towards a higher displacement, the brand figured it doesn’t make sense to launch products in the 150cc segment.

Diego Graffi, Chairman and Managing Director, Piaggio Vehicles, has stated that it made Aprilia look at other opportunities and it seems like the chance it has been waiting for has arrived since he added that we will see an Aprilia 300cc bike in the next coming years. He also added starting with a completely new product portfolio for two-wheelers because we see more demand and interest for products between 150cc and 300cc. Our plan is to make a motorcycle in India and make it suitable for the global market. But this will definitely take some time – a brand-new motorcycle by 2022-23.
