Why my bike gives poor mileage? It isn’t as I had expected or promised. Often this is the major concern of every bike riders. Most of the bike riders are unknown about the ways to enhance the bike mileage or behind the poor mileage performances of their motor-bikes. The majority of riders still believe that all the old bikes give poor mileage. Due to this reasoning, most of the bike riders are also in a hurry to sell their old bikes.

Often the bikers believe that an old bike starts to give less mileage compared to a new bike. Though we won’t state this to be a false statement it is only a partial reality. Even an old bike can give good mileage if maintained regularly. And most of the time, the driving etiquette / behaviour of the rider also have huge impacts on the mileage side of the bike.

Thus, we have tried to summarize 6 major reasons to enhance your bike mileage. These six basics etiquette will certainly help a rider get the best mileage value.

1. Keep the Air Filter Clean:

An air filter plays a big role in enhancing motor-bike mileage. As the melted dust and dirt in the air filter gives extra burden to the engine, now and then engine performance declines. The dust accumulated in the engine blocks the air passing and an engine heats up. This constantly results in the stoppage of the motor-ignition and hence demanding for more supply of fuel. Thus, it is necessary to clean the air filter time and again and replace it when it gets old. A quality air filter will always come in handy so please don’t compromise on it.

2. Wait Before You Start Driving:

Most of us are always in a hurry to run a bike as soon as starting it. This is not the right way to ride a bike. A biker must keep their bike in neutral for about 10 to 15 minutes, before driving down the road. This process will keep your engine safe and hence enhance the mileage. A biker must also turn the engine off in traffic to stop fuel consumption.

3. Pay Attention to Gears and Brake:

A bike mileage is also affected by the motorcyclist braking and gearing action. A biker mustn’t be constantly pushing the brake or changing the gear unless it is necessary. This kind of activity will only pressurize the engine and hence engine starts exerting more fuel. Motorbike mileage enhances if a biker rides a bike according to their speed. The gearing activity needs to be followed according to the road conditioning as well to enhance the mileage.

4. Dependency Over Clutch:

Most of us constantly push the clutch while driving. Whatever be the reason be it efficient handling or other, there is a definite impact of this behaviour on the bike performance. As a result, people face various problems related to the clutch which directly impacts the mileage side of the motorbike. Most of the people keep pushing the clutch and foot brakes in the traffic and this also impacts the mileage of the bike. To enhance the mileage every rider must pay attention to riding a bike at the same speed.

5.  Accelerator Etiquette:

To enhance the mileage, a biker should pay attention to their accelerator. The accelerator is directly connected to the vehicles engine and fuel tank. Thus, when we are running the accelerator, we need to control our accelerator etiquette. Rashly handling the accelerator builds up higher pressure on the engine and often heats the engine. The heated engine usually demands higher fuel and hence, impacts the mileage of the motorcycle.

6. An Air Pressure in Tire:

Not having enough air pressure in the tire builds pressure in the engine and hence demands higher fuel. Often, when the tire gets older, it impacts the air storage capacity of the wheel. Thus, it is important to drive the bike only after fully fuelling up air pressure. Less air pressure also impacts the durability of the wheels. So, as a rider, a timely air-pressure check should be considered to enhance the mileage of the bike.
