As the XL6 was a success in the market. Maruti Suzuki may soon release a new offering from their premium dealerships “Nexa”. The test mule has been spotted many times wearing camouflage. From the images, we can see that the XL5 comes with black alloy wheels which look like they are inspired by the Ignis. But we expect that once launched the XL5 will come with a different set of alloy wheels. The car is based on the tallboy design of the current generation WagonR. At the front, there will be LED Daytime-Running Lamps with a projector setup and a new grille. The rear of the XL5 will also remind you of the WagonR but will get a different bumper and slightly tweaked taillamps.
The interior will be derived from the XL6 and will get the all-black theme for a more sporty appeal. Maruti Suzuki will also offer the latest generation of the SmartPlay audio system which comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The rear parking camera with rear sensors will help the driver in parking the new hatch. We expect that the XL5 specifications will include the same BS-6 compliant 1.2-litre engine which is doing duty on other Maruti cars. This engine produces 81.80bhp of max power and 113Nm of peak torque. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or an AMT.
The XL5 will be Nexa’s new entry-level car and is expected to make its global debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. Though the company has not revealed any information about the car yet, it is expected to be underpinned by Wagon R’s platform. Its spy shots reveal that it gets a new pair of headlights, along with a new grille. Maruti is also expected to design the car’s headlights with LED DRLs on top and headlamps positioned below. Mechanically, the car is expected to be equipped with a BSVI-compliant K12B engine that makes 83 PS of maximum power. The company could also offer the 1.2-litre Dualjet and the 1-litre K10B engines as an option, but it is yet to be confirmed. A 5-speed manual gearbox is expected to be offered as standard, with the option of an AMT unit.
The rear seems to be relatively unchanged, except its differently positioned brake lights. These are expected to be LED units, along with the centre-mounted stop lamp. The interiors are also expected to have minimal changes over the current-gen Wagon R. Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch its latest offering, the XL5. Essentially a spiritual successor to the massively successful Wagon R, the XL5 will be the latest addition to the Nexa lineup.
