A Brief History Of Bajaj Auto.
Bajaj Auto came into existence on 29 November 1944 as M/s Bachraj Trading Corporation Private Limited. It started off by selling imported two- and three-wheelers in India. In 1959, it obtained a license from the Government of India to manufacture two-wheelers and three-wheelers and obtained Licence from Piaggio to manufacture Vespa Brand Scooters in India and started making Vespa 150 scooters. It became a public limited company in 1960. In 1970, it rolled out its 100,000th vehicle. In 1977, it sold 100,000 vehicles in a financial year. In 1985, it started producing at Waluj near Aurangabad. In 1986, it sold 500,000 vehicles in a financial year. In 1995, it rolled out its ten millionth vehicle and produced and sold one million vehicles in a year. With the launch of motorcycles in 1986, the company has changed its image from a scooter manufacturer to a two-wheeler manufacturer. Here is some brief.

1948: Commenced sales of imported two & three wheelers from Vespa
1958: Bachraj Trading Corporation Pvt Ltd. applied to Government of India for manufacture of Motor scooters and auto rickshaws
1959: Obtained licence to manufacture two & three wheelers. Changed company name to Bajaj Auto Private Ltd
1960: Became a public company
1969: Produced its 1,00,000th scooter
1971: Introduced three–wheeled goods carrier Started independent production – under Bajaj brand
1972: Introduced Bajaj Chetak scooter
1973: Began exports in of scooters & 3 wheelers to Nigeria, Bangladesh, Australia, Sudan, Bahrain, Hong Kong and Yemen
1974: Collaborated with PT. Tunas Bekasi Motor Co. Jakarta for technical knowhow for manufacture of scooters and 3-wheelers in Indonesia Collaborated with Paijifa Industrial Co. in Taiwan for scooters
1977: Introduced rear engine auto rickshaw. Sold 100,000 vehicles in one financial year
1981: Launched Bajaj M–50. More than 1.1 million motorcycles booked
1985: Inauguration of the Waluj by the erstwhile President of India, Giani Zail Singh. Commercial production of scooters commenced at this plant.
1986: Introduced the Bajaj M–80. Sold 500,000 vehicles in a single financial year. Began commercial production of a 100 cc motorcycle "Kawasaki Bajaj KB-100" in collaboration with Kawasaki Heavy Industries
1989: Developed a 50 cc (Bajaj Sunny) and 150 cc scooter (Bajaj Legend
1991: Introduced Kawasaki Bajaj 4S Champion motorcycle
1995: Received ISO-9001 certification from BVQI on March 20, 1995. Signed agreements with Kubota of Japan for the development of diesel engines for three-wheelers and with Tokyo R&D for ungeared scooter and moped development
1997: Introduced the Kawasaki Bajaj Boxer and the RE diesel Auto rickshaw
1998: Commenced production at company's 3rd manufacturing plant at Chakan. Introduced Boxer' - a new 4-stroke motorcycle. Introduced India's first 4-stroke scooter 'Bajaj Legend' & new 2-stroke scooter 'Bravo' with an advanced 5-port engine.
1999: Commenced production of CNG RE auto rickshaw. Commenced the Windmill project - 56 wind mills at a total cost of Rs. 900 million for power requirement
2000: Introduced upgrades for Boxer.
2001: Launched its latest offering in the premium bike segment 'Pulsar' & Eliminator. Began Motorcycle exports
2002: Introduced Boxer AR, Boxer CT with K-Tech engine
2003: Introduced Pulsar 150 and Pulsar 180 variants with a new Digital Twin Spark Ignition (DTS-i) technology. Introduced a diesel, rear engine goods carrier - GC 1000. Introduced Rear Engine AR 4s LPG
2004: Launched Bajaj Discover DTS–i, and Bajaj CT100. Unveiled new brand identity, new symbol, logo and brand tag line. Introduced Pulsar 150 and Pulsar 180 motorcycles with ExhausTEC, alloy wheels and Nitrox Gas Shock Absorber
2005: Introduced Bajaj Avenger DTS–i. Boxer CT-100 motorcycle was upgraded with ExhausTEC and SNS suspension. Introduced Discover 110.
2006: Launched Bajaj Platina motorcycle.
2007: Launched Bajaj Pulsar 220, and Pulsar 200 cc DTS–i. Inaugurated Pantnagar plant, Bajaj’s 4th manufacturing plant in Pant Nagar, Uttarakhand State; with a total area of 65 acres. Bajaj Holdings & Investment Ltd was incorporated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bajaj Auto Ltd
2008: Exported more than half million motorcycle in a single year. Introduced Platina 125 DTSi. Bajaj Auto International Holdings BV, Netherlands was incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary company in Netherlands. Invested to procure equity shares of KTM Power Sports AG, Austria
2009: Launched Pulsar 135 & upgrades for Pulsar 150 & 180.
2010: Launched Discover 150, Pulsar 220 F, Pulsar 180 UG, Pulsar 150 UG and Pulsar 135 LS and Discover DTSi.
2010: Launched Discover 125, Discover 150, Avenger 220 DTSi and KTM Duke 125.
2011: Exported more than a million motorcycle in a single year. Launched Pulsar 200 NS, KTM 200, BM 150 (Africa) and BM 100
2012: Tied up with Japan’s Kawasaki in Indonesia for Distribution
2013: Launched Discover 125 ST Discover 100 T, KTM Duke 125, Duke 200
2014: Launched Discover 150 S and 150 F
2015: Launched India’s first Quadricyle, Qute. With this Bajaj now has created a separate category of vehicles called Intra-city Vehicles. These are primarily for Intra-city transport & aid in first & last mile transport requirements.
